The Meteorological Service has issued a flash flood watch for low lying and flood prone areas of eastern parishes.

The watch is effective until 5:00 p.m. today. The advisory means that flash flooding is possible and residents should take precautionary measures, and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a Warning is issued.

The Meteorological Service said that a Cold Front, currently situated just west of Jamaica, has been producing unstable weather conditions across the island since late last night.

Satellite imagery and rainfall data indicate that light to moderate and at times heavy showers have been affecting sections of eastern parishes since midnight.

The forecast is for periods of showers, which could be heavy at times, to continue across eastern parishes throughout the morning, spreading to most parishes while accompanied by thunderstorms this afternoon into tonight.

Small Craft operations should also exercise caution both inshore and offshore the north coast due to expected thunderstorm activity.
