BOOM Unruly Wednesday’s returns
The dancehall event sphere will get a little more interesting with the return of one of the street's most anticipated events - BOOM Unruly Wednesday's.
Conceptualised by the 'Unruly Boss', Popcaan, the event started as a tool to unearth talent in and around the inner cities of Kingston by placing young talent in dancehall's harshest clash-esque setting.
"I started the unruly clash because I wanted to discover some of the hidden talents that are out there and give ghetto youths like myself an avenue to showcase their skills," Popcaan said. "It was just a regular Wednesday that we were at the studio holding a vibe, I was in my car listening to some old school riddims. Couple young artistes were there and I just told them to clash. Everyone thought I was joking, but you see, what started as a joke for them turned out to be one of the most buzzing events on a Wednesday night."
The event - though underground - grew so big that young and upcoming artistes like Devin Di Dakta - before his rise to fame - would travel from outside of Kingston to try their luck.
Brand manager for BOOM Energy Drink, Kimberly Lawson, believes that lyrical rivalry is healthy for the preservation of the dancehall culture.
"Having done a dance and sound clash, we thought it only right to continue in our aim to preserve what is authentic dancehall," Lawson said.
The Unruly Boss was very happy that the energy drink decided to support the move and believes both entities work hand in hand.
The event, held at Shocking Vibes studio on Springvale Avenue, starts on February 10.
