The inner-city community of Seaview Gardens, which is located off Spanish Town Road, is now anticipating a live show featuring the likes of Bounty Killa, Dexta Daps, Aidonia and Busy Signal this weekend.

The event, which is being hosted by resident and dancehall deejay Blakkman, in association with Island Jams, is in aid of developing a proper community centre for the youth in the area, as well as refurbishing the Seaview Gardens and Hunts Bay police stations.

The initiative has been called the Seaview Gardens Neighbourhood Assistance Project.

"Mi always keep a weekly event inna Seaview, so each time me go over station to deal with the permit, di police seh dem tink we can get something done for the yutes. So we reach out to the artistes and tell dem bout it, and a deh suh it reach," Blakkman told THE STAR.

LOCAL DEEJAYS

More than 20 popular entertainers have been advertised to perform at the stage show that will be held at the Red Stripe Oval that neighbours Seaview Gardens. Blakkman and the promotions team for the Seaview Gardens Neighbourhood Assistance Project have also invited local young deejays to show their talents at the event.

Blakkman, who is known for the singles Nine Night and Miss You So Much (a collaboration with Dexta Daps), also has plans to provide scholarships to children in the community who are unable to afford school.

"There are many kids that are doing well in school but don't have the funds, either because them parents involve inna crime, dead during violent acts or inna prison," Blakkman said.

"I see where music is doing something positive for the community," he said.

In addition to helping children from the community, Blakkman said the proceeds from the event will also go towards making the cops more comfortable in the stations.

"We have plans fi install air-conditioning units over the station, too, because it hot and a fan dem haffi a use," Blakkman said.
