'Teeta' character paying off for Daniela Gordon
Over the past two years, actress Daniela Gordon has emerged as one of the fiercest young voices in theatre.
As her principal character, 'Teeta', Gordon has had fun unleashing her brand of mischief on her audiences and castmates alike.
She brings effervescence to the stage with her mannerisms and outlandish outfit choices.
In the critically acclaimed Bad Breed in 2016-17, she played a teenager always barging into situations and conversations.
Fast-forward two years, and she is at it again as 'Teeta' in a new play, David Tulloch's Young and Wreckless.
"The cast is very young, but some, like Junior Williams and Ricky Rowe from the Blue Mountain Theatre Group, are quite experienced, and I am anticipating learning from them. The chemistry between the cast has been great," she said.
Gordon is a two-time awardee for Best Folk Piece in the annual Jamaica Cultural Development Commission's Festival for the Performing Arts competition.
In 2016, she won the Louise Bennett Award for her entry.
She is eagerly anticipating the limited run of the upcoming production, which opens on June 22 at the Phoenix Theatre in New Kingston.
"What I want to do is brand the cultural aspects of Jamaica through my work in the theatre, and eventually, I would love to work as a media personality, so these are the necessary steps in my development," she said.
