The I Love MoBay Foundation staged the first in a series of movie nights at the Old Hospital Park on the Hip Strip in Montego Bay, last Friday.

Scores of families came out with their blankets for the special screening of the Disney animated film Zootopia.

According to foundation chairman Douglas Gordon, the event will be a free admission, monthly movie series and falls under the organisation's five pillars for renewal of the city: education and mentorship, sports, entertainment, arts and culture, civic pride and environmental awareness.

"So we have different activities in each one of those pillars that will be rolled out in the next couple of months," Gordon told WESTERN STAR.

Among those activities are a mentorship speaking series in partnership with Junior Achievement, a partnership with the MoBay United Football Club, and one initiative known as Gloves over Guns in boxing.

For the organisers, it is really to bring families together, with the first 300 children getting free popcorn. Transportation was provided free of cost from the usually sensitive communities.

The open-air event had bouncy castles and other activities for the children, while the hot dog and popcorn stand was abuzz with activity.

The I Love MoBay Foundation was officially launched on February 8 this year. It aims to showcase, celebrate and engender pride in the famed tourist capital.
