Yesterday, international dancehall artiste Sean Paul announced that his father, Garth Henriques, passed away, less than two months after the artiste spearheaded a blood drive for his ailing dad.

“It is with deep regret I announce the passing of my father, Garth Henriques, today, May 24, 2018,” said Sean Paul.

“I wish to thank everyone who has offered their kind words and sincere condolences in this time of bereavement. I wish to extend my appreciation to the doctors, nurses and medical team at UHWI (University Hospital of the West Indies) and the many fans, friends and family who donated blood,” he said.

On April 10, the dancehall artiste announced on social media that his father had been ill and hospitalised approximately two months prior. Nine days following the post, Sean Paul made arrangements for a blood drive for his father in association with the National Blood Transfusion Service of Jamaica.

The blood drive was held at the National Chest Hospital in Barbican, St Andrew, on May 20.

However, Sean Paul did not openly share the reason for his father’s illness, except stating that Henriques was in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the UHWI.

Meanwhile, the artiste has asked that the family’s privacy be honoured during their time of bereavement.
