Gospel Spotlight: Morgie nah guh dance again
Partying until the wee hours of the morning, drinking so much that the way home was unrecognisable, and stringing along multiple females at once Esrick 'Morgie' Morgan shares quite a story in his music.
The life of the 42-year-old resident of Bog Walk changed in 1996 when he had a near-death experience.
"While walking in Linstead one day, I saw a man walking towards me and firing shots. I received four shots above my waist," Morgie told The WEEKEND STAR in a recent interview. "That same day, while in the emergency room, I wanted to get up to pass urine and felt like I was going [to die]."
It was at that moment that Morgie pledged that if he survived, he would serve the Lord.
The way he chose to do so was through music, but it was not until two years ago that he decided to take his journey to a higher level of worship and praise - by becoming a gospel recording artiste.
In 2016, he released his debut album, He Chose Me.
"I used to beat the bench at school and put lyrics together with friends, so I always knew I had the talent," he said.
His gospel career started with practising in church, the first place Morgie knew he needed to find himself based on the type of lifestyle he led before his extensive injuries.
The wounds had the music lover hospitalised for over two weeks.
His singles Nah Go A Dance Again and Testimony are a testament to the healing and transformation process.
"I used to go party whole heap and used to drink and drunk," he said. "I don't do those things anymore. Now, I am on a mission to continue a positive journey to touch as many souls with my story."
He has already graced the stages of several gospel events, including Youth Congress, Fun Fest, 100 Man March, and numerous church-hosted functions across the country.
He has even shared the spotlight with I Give You Glory singer Jonathan Nelson from the United States.
