Shenseea ready for BET performance - Artiste also featured on Christina Aguilera collab
She has only been in music professionally for two years, but fast-rising dancehall artiste Shenseea has been making waves. She has quickly cemented her place as one to watch on the local scene and has already begun to make moves to crossover into the international market.
Shenseea is gearing up to unleash a Jamaican take over on BET with a performance on BETX Live in Los Angeles. That show will also feature fellow Jamaican, Konshens, and Caribbean soca stars Bunji Garlin and Fay-Ann Lyons.
Speaking with THE WEEKEND STAR about her recent successes, Shenseea explained that doors are opening up for her internationally because she has done and is still doing the groundwork in Jamaica. She also noted that having a supportive team has made all the difference in her career.
“Me and my team at Romeich Entertainment are getting projects from all over the world for collabs and singles. We’re just putting in work and giving the public some great songs. I’m trying to maintain a great image to keep more eyes on me. I can tell you I have two collabs with international acts that may be released soon as well,” she said.
GREAT DOORS OPENING
“Anyone who knows me knows that being an international artiste is the ultimate goal. These are great doors opening for me all at once, and I am just taking my time and ensuring I do things properly and make a statement.”
The BET feature is not the only international move Shenseea has made over the past week. Shenseea is also featured on Christina Aguilera’s album, Liberation, which was released last weekend. This is Aguilera’s first album in six years, and Shenseea is featured on the song, Right Moves.
Speaking on that accomplishment, Shenseea expressed gratitude, pointing out that there is no telling what doors such a feature could open for her in the future.
“My manager Romeich got an email from her (Aguilera’s) management team in December of 2016 saying they want me on a track with her. At first, we thought it was a joke, but we still did it and sent them 16 bars. Christina’s team contacted us again and told us the song was approved and will be released,” she said.
“It’s very exciting because you never know what can come from being featured on a song with an international artiste. We’re just hoping for the best and continue to work. I have the greatest team and manager who works with me day in and day out. I also work tirelessly to ensure we get these results. I haven’t lost my hunger or passion for international success, so I have to continue to work hard. The same effort and energy I’ve had from day one, I still have it.”
Encouraging up-and-coming talent to keep at it, Shenseea reminded trying artistes that their time will come just like hers has.
“Just continue working. When it’s your time, it’s your time. Trust in the Lord, get a good team or manager to work with and continue working. Never give up, and do not make anyone try to change who you really are,” she said.
“Be humble, but at the same time stand up for yourself, keep your head high and make no one use you or change your vision or what you love about your music and yourself.”
