Overseas-based promoter Kishawn 'Striva' Sterling has partnered with 1X Entertainment to host a soca event in Clarendon this summer titled 'Soca Invasion'.

According to the promoter, the event will not just bring excitement as far as entertainment is concerned, but will draw the community closer as part of community-building efforts.

The event is set for July 28 at Milk River. Striva says he believes Milk River has the potential to be a good entertainment spot and says his event will open people's eyes to that possibility.

"This event is just a stepping stone towards reaching greater things for the community," he said.

Striva added that there are several spots across Jamaica that are underutilised as not only entertainment spots, but tourist attractions, and believes that rather than waiting on the government to recognise them, residents can play a role in developing these areas.

He said there are many attractions that are not given the attention they need to stand out.

"In the United States, every waterfront is developed, even if the water is no good. In Jamaica, I see every day how the waterfronts are disregarded," he expressed. "I have to wonder if these leaders don't travel to places like Miami and see those attractions and get envious. As somebody who resides overseas, I have a dream of seeing Jamaica maximise its natural resources, and hosting this event is me playing my little part in doing so."

Soca Invasion will feature performances from several local recording artistes and DJs alongside overseas talent.

"It's the second staging of the event, but this year will be more organised and will include much more attractions. We are looking for a good turnout, because we see the bigger picture and we hope patrons will see it, too," Striva said.
