STAR of the Month: Shane O partners with Wray & Nephew

Doors just keep opening up for our STAR of the Month Shane O, as corporate Jamaica is currently knocking with a flood of opportunities for the deejay.

Writing even more pages in his stellar comeback story, the entertainer has landed a deal with J. Wray & Nephew Limited and has shot a commercial for the brand's white overproof rum.

Speaking with THE STAR about the deal, Shane O describes the opportunity as a good one, especially given the fact that he almost gave up on music.

"It's a great feeling because me always a say, 'A when? Which year dem big company here a go reach out and say dem a sign me or sup'm?'," he said.

"Good thing mi believe inna mi self and never give up. Mi tell mi self seh one day it did a go come. It's a great feeling fi see Shane O a go up on the billboard dem pan di highway and thing."

The artiste explained that his songs and the messages they are sending have a lot to do with why he was selected by the liquor company. He also revealed that other corporate companies are lining up to work with him.

"Mil Fi Share (A Million) is a get-together song, enuh. Mi and mi fren dem, sharing and caring. A song like that corporate would have to reach out to the artiste, even if a never me sing it, because the vibes positive and the song just a make people feel good," he said. "It's a great feeling when people outside of your space see wah yah do and wah work wid yuh. And it's even better for us as dancehall artistes, because we name always call pan negative things, so it good when we get signed to corporate companies and people can see a different side to we."

Nadia Kiffin-Green, marketing manager responsible for Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum, described the Shane O partnership as a good one for both parties.

"Shane O is a natural fit for the Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum's Share Our Spirit campaign. Music is a part of the fabric of Jamaican culture, and we found it imperative to partner with a local born and bred musician who emphasises the importance of community and sharing with one and other."
