HoodCelebrityy promises more visits to Jamaica
Jamaica-born international star HoodCelebrityy says her fellow Jamaicans can expect to see more of her in the coming months.
The entertainer was speaking with THE STAR following her debut performance on the Rock at Tease, held at Sugarman's Beach on Sunday.
This was her first time back home in a number of years. She explained that following a successful trip, which included her shooting scenes for a new music video, she's looking forward to visiting the island more often.
"Walking Trophy is like a anthem in Jamaica and me come home and feel the love from the people, so me affi come back more often," she said. "I just shoot the video for my next single, Inna Real Life, and I feel like it's going to be a follow-up success on Walking Trophy."
The entertainer said she had to shoot that video here because she feels like the song speaks to her roots.
"When people see the glamour, dem see me get sign, dem don't really know the story of HoodCelebrityy and me want people know weh me a come from, so Inna Real Life did affi shoot inna Jamaica," she said.
The entertainer told THE STAR that she was nervous about her trip.
She explained that the nerves were not just because of her performance, but also because she didn't know how people would receive her, especially in Portmore.
One of her first stops when she landed on the island on Saturday night was to visit her old community.
NERVES GONE
She told THE STAR that once she got there, love took over and all nerves disappeared.
"Fi see how Jamaican people embrace me and embrace me music, there was nothing to worry about," she said switching into her patois. "Mi honestly very emotional right now. Fi see di love and how the people dem treat mi, mi loss fi words right now."
She was equally at a loss following her performance, as the crowd gave her what she described as "the biggest 'forward' I could ask for".
"You know seh we as Jamaicans we rough though, so when a Jamaican crowd gi yuh a forward, a really a forward. Jamaicans a di toughest crowd and when mi see how dem react, me know seh everything good and is a genuine forward me get," she said. "Sher (DHQ Sher) believe inna me from day one and she book me fi da event here, and it being my first time on a stage in Jamaica, I could not disappoint. Dem put everything together, organise everything and treat me so good, me did affi go and give it mi all on stage."
But before she took the stage, the early entertainment was left up to pole dancers Maria Jade and Kayoz from Miami, Florida. The two took the strip club to the beach, and to say the crowd was captivated would be an understatement. Patrons were completely mesmerised as they watched them work the pole.
