Dancing galore at Yesterday

Perhaps it was the holiday weekend, but promoters were undoubtedly happy with the crowd that came out to Yesterday at Mas Camp on Saturday.

Hundreds came out to fill the massive venue to capacity. Gates were open from as early as 10 p.m., and when THE STAR team got there at approximately midnight, there was hardly any room inside Mas Camp, and still, supporters kept streaming in.

By the time it got to 2 a.m., there was not enough room to have a good dance. However, couples didn't seem to mind the close fit.

After all, the party promised some good old music from the '90s, and that genre requires you getting and staying close to your partner.

As usual, Yesterday took patrons on a trip down memory lane, many expressing that the bit of nostalgia was exactly what they needed to take them into the Independence celebrations.

Pointing out that so much has changed in Jamaica over the years, many patrons expressed a joy in music from that era still being able to thrill and bring pleasure.

Couples danced up a storm as each selector skilfully delivered a set with the best of songs from the likes of Buju Banton, Barrington Levy, Beres Hammond and Dennis Brown.

The lover rock segment had patrons wining on each other, some occasionally sharing a kiss or two. Patrons slow-danced into the wee hours of the morning and enjoyed each section of the event.

Things got much more intense between couples when the dancehall selections came on. Songs from Lady Saw, in particular, sent the women into 'bruk out' mode, and the men followed.

And the women bent over to register another dose of wining as their partners stayed close behind, gripping them by the waist and matching them wine for wine.

The party continued until close to 5 a.m., and most patrons stayed until the music was turned off, ensuring they got their money's worth and then some.
