The classic Bookshelf rhythm has a new voice. Singer Khalia has hopped on to the beat with her engaging and body-grooving track called My Name.

My Name was serviced to radio stations locally and internationally a few weeks ago, and based on the early responses, it would seem as if the disc jocks are loving it.

Khalia said that she feels honoured to record on the classic beat. The Bookshelf rhythm was first released in 1998. Among the hits it spawned were Beenie Man's Bookshelf, Deport Dem by Sean Paul, and Watching You by Wayne Wonder.

"It's actually so surreal. This is one of my favourite rhythms of all time that I grew up listening to. Now, my voice has a song on it, so crazy! It's something I would have never dreamt of, so I'm truly honoured to get this opportunity," she said.

She explained that the song My Name tells the story of a daydreaming girl.

"It's really taking myself back, like the rhythm does, to when you have a crush on someone and you think they have no idea you exist. Therefore, you daydream of all possibilities," Khalia said.

Meanwhile, Khalia has been making her presence felt at live events in recent times. She recently performed at 100 Live in Kingston. She is among the acts on the Skeleton Fresh All-Island Tour. The tour, which features the likes of Stylez, Jahshi, Tamo J, Tosh Alexander and Delando Colley, began on September 30. It will end on November 29.

"The tour has been a lot of fun. All the other artistes on it are greatly talented, and I am happy to be a part of something like this. I also love the fact that it's a team effort to showcase the musical talents that we have in Jamaica, and I love that," Khalia said.
