During his performance at Magnum Xplosion last Friday, the 2018 Magnum King of Dancehall, Bluugo, invited Tamo J to join him on stage.

The two demonstrated teamwork that is not particularly common among today's generation of rising stars in the genre.

It's obviously a very good idea, as there is a lot of animosity which, according to St Catherine-raised Bluugo, "we cannot segregate as dancehall artistes, especially when the world is beginning to accept the genre on a larger scale. While it may not turn off di audience, the segregation divides the music and causes too much confusion."

From two different worlds, Tamo J, 26, is a singer and songwriter born in London but raised in the Kingston 20 area.

Yet, it was not the first time that he had joined Bluugo on stage, despite not being booked to perform. The same gesture is made when Tamo J has a performance.

Bluugo told THE STAR that this type of collaboration has been beneficial for both of them, as "it exposes me to his audience and him to my listeners."

He continued, "Plus, the team we have is a family. We talk every day and par in the streets, so it is cooperation and we operate as a team."

He added that Tamo J has taught him a different approach to grab the attention of the female listeners.

"Instead of di aggressive style weh mi do more often, him show mi how fi caress the ladies wid mi voice; even if we did the same music, it would still be the same positive energy," he said.

Eager to take their music to another level, the entertainers have joined efforts to enhance their skills and boost the industry.

Tamo J said: "If more artistes can adapt that energy, it would work for the betterment of the music, and performance is part of that. First of all, the platform is there for everybody. If everybody opens one door, it is a full house and even greater entertainment package. The more doors open, the more room it makes for creativity."
