She has kept a relatively low profile over the past few months, but singer Bella Blair says she is Jamaica’s next big star.

Her upcoming single,Don’t Chat to Me, is set to premiere on Monday, and will be her first release since her 2018 summer EP,Aura.

Don’t Chat to Me is a bop. I can’t wait for people to hear it,” Bella Blair toldTHE WEEKEND STAR.

“It’s really about ‘frenemies’ who want to be up in your space when you’re winning, but they were not around when you were at your low.”

She referenced lyrics from the song in testifying its truth in her own life.

“I get a lot of love from women in the industry, but to all the ‘dutty’ gyal dem, I don’t want to be dem friend’,” she said.

The track was produced by Kevon ‘Webbo’ Webster, who also producedAura. The six-track EP showcased the musical diversity and range of Blair as she dabbled across local and international genres. The tracklist includes the daring I Can Do Better, hot dub numberHot Gyal Sumting, and the sole collaborationChanged Up, featuring Alexander Padei. Blair described the project as experimental and said it helped to ascertain what her fans like.

“It did well for my first body of work and me just transitioning into music,” she said. “I’ve gotten seven cheques so far for selling my music only. I think I am on the right path. When I review where my music is being bought, it’s mostly the United Kingdom, United States and Canada. My fans communicate with me mostly via Instagram, and they love all the songs.”

Blair has been in the studio since, and says she sees great promise in 2019.

“I have songs in the lab waiting to come out, and I will be releasing way more content this year,” she said. “I think this year will be special for me. I’m Jamaica’s next big star, and they will know soon enough.”
