Koffee wins at dubplate awards

Young reggae artiste Koffee has claim her first dubplate win after being declared Female Dubplate Artiste of the Year in Irish and Chin's 2019 annual World Clash Dubplate Award (WCDA).

Irish and Chin said the rising star has been gaining the attention of the media and masses with her contemporary reggae/dancehall single, Toast, and EP, Rapture. They also say that Koffee has also captured the attention of sound system operators far and wide.

United Kingdon-based artiste Stylo G also nabbed his first WCDA win. He walked away with the International Dubplate Artiste of the Year award. 

Deejay Busy Signal wowed voters and scored Dubplate Single of the Year for his hit song, Stay So, and Bounty Killer picked up the Best 90's Dubplate Artiste of the Year win for a consecutive year. 

Aidonia scored a consecutive win for the heavyweight Dubplate Artiste of the Year, Romain Virgo was the Male Dubplate Vocalist of the Year; Josey Wales was adjudged Veteran Dubplate Deejay of the Year and Beres Hammond was declared Veteran Dubplate Vocalist of the Year

“Dubplate culture is a key part of Jamaica's indigenous sound system culture. I strive to continue to bridge the gap between artistes and sounds, while preserving this highly important sector of our musical heritage," founder of the awards, Garfield 'Chin' Bourne, said.

"I am happy to see newcomers win big at this year's WCDA. It proves that dubplate culture is just as important and relevant to newer stars as it is to legendary artistes."
