Popular Old Harbour Road pan chicken man Samuel Thompson has added recording artiste to his repertoire of skills.

Persons create songs that touch various topics, including love, empowerment and the issues facing society.

However, his two releases have the same topic: jerked chicken.

"I have recorded two songs name Dem A Jerk and Watch Mi Jerk. Di song dem help me to keep me motivated, because is the products mi a sing 'bout," Thompson said.

He said that the two songs were recorded at Rasskunthy Records in Spanish Town in April.

Artistes singing about meals isn't new, of course, as various artistes have done food songs over the years.

The latest is from Icekoolio, ironically from Spanish Town, who recorded the single Whe Di Bwoy Put Inna Di Chicken.

While Icekoolio did his song out of fun, for Thompson, there is a different motivation. He said that he believes that he can do more in his food business when he combines the music with it.

Therefore, he has taken to performing his songs while preparing his jerked chicken.

Musical Offerings

He has been jerking chicken neck and back under the famed 'big tree' along Old Harbour Road for four years. His patrons were delighted when they first heard his musical offerings.

"Da man a jerk here for a while now and di song dem really sound good. It is different, as him still a do him ting and a do music 'bout it," said regular customer Marvin Johnston.

Although some believe that he is ready for the stage, for now Thompson is keeping it small-scale, with a hope to 'buss' big.

"I am doing the songs now for the jerk business, but I intend to make other songs that can have great impact on the world," Thompson said, suggesting that music can complement anything, including jerk.

Meanwhile, he said that apart from food, he intends to do more music that inspires positive energy.
