This is not the end - Music industry members not ‘quaking’ at doomsday theories
With just a month into 2020, the world has already experienced the threat of World War III, bushfires and hail storm in Australia and the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus.
Just yesterday, Jamaica and other countries, including the Cayman Islands, Cuba, Haiti and The Bahamas, were struck by a magnitude 7.7 earthquake that triggered several tsunami watches.
This was mere hours after news broke that doctors at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) were treating a suspected case of the coronavirus in Jamaica.
The series of events yesterday has caused many social media users to declare that we are indeed experiencing the last days as prophesied in The Bible.
Billboard songwriter and producer Kirk 'Koolface' Ford was in the Cayman Islands at the time of the earthquake. He said the massive quake moved buildings and caused structural damage to some roads, triggering a general feeling of panic.
But while he was a little bit taken aback, Koolface is not quick to buy into 'doomsday' theories.
"As far as people saying it's the end of times, whenever any natural disaster happens, people always go back to those theories. We are very religious in the Caribbean and with crime getting out of control and the outbreak of coronavirus and all the other diseases and stuff happening at once, that is the main mindset of most people," he said. "I am not saying it can't be the end of times, but I'll take it one day at a time. What these events should teach us is that we need to regroup as one and try to be unified."
In a recent interview with THE STAR, Christian producer and singer Tommy Cowan said he believes what is happening around the world right now is a warning from God.
"God is a God of second chances. He will give us every chance to get ourselves straight and get right with Him before he brings the times of judgments on us. None of the earthquakes, none of the fires, none of the wars, the tsunamis are nothing to compare to the judgment that will happen when He really is ready. We're just getting a flash-forward, a 'likkle tups' of what will happen," Cowan said at the time.
NOT THE FIRST
"Of course, this is not the first we're hearing of earthquakes and wildfires and scientists will explain that is as a result of climate change and so on. And, I'm not versed in the last days prophecies, but there's a thing called the epileptic judgment, which is God having a warning out there which we really need to pay attention to. He will be showing us signs that we need to walk right."
But noted atheist Cordel 'Skatta' Burrell believes now is not the time to turn to "dirty Jesus". He believes all that is happening is as a result of mankind's doing.
"Bad things have been happening all over the world for a long time; these things are nothing new. We're just quicker to hear about these things now because information is available everywhere," he said. "Nature rolls its fist at anybody at any time and no prayer can deter that. Maybe one or two time my mouth will slip and me call pan dirty Jesus, but dat don't mean I expect dirty Jesus to save me. We can fix everything that is happening to us here on this planet, but we're not going to get around to that unless we leggo certain thoughts and leggo religion," he said.
