Dancehall artiste Unknown Gringo says his most recent track, ‘ Coil Pon Coil’, is a completely original song. Although similarly titled to Skillibeng’s hit, ‘ Brick Pon Brick’, the entertainer says his song has a different concept and his, in his opinion, has more substance.

“It’s not a remix, it’s a full-written song. If yuh listen to Brick Pon Brick, it is a short song, is not a full song. It’s just a catchy punchline with a catchy verse. My song, if yuh listen it, is a full, established song weh a person can listen to and vibe, because I’m not repeating myself over and over,” he said.

“The song, Coil Pon Coil, is about the ladies; giving them money, splashing out on them. Me want di man dem know say dem must take care of them, spoil dem, and make dem feel good.”

The entertainer said that since the song was released last month, he has been getting a lot of love from the streets. He says people have been supporting the track because it is relatable.

“People will say it’s a counteraction, but my song have more punchlines in it. I’m talking about more things weh people can understand, and that’s why the song a get a lot of buzz inna di streets. Di woman dem like the vibes and yuh can’t go wrong with that,” he said.

Well aware that he may face backlash for some of the things he has said, Unknown Gringo said he is prepared, and stands by his song and the stance he has taken to support it.

“Backlash is not something that can break me or make me feel down or anything, because as an artiste yuh have people that will not like yuh music and people that will not love yuh music. I’m a well-established artiste, innu. I’ve been in the business before Brick Pon Brick or whoever that artiste may be, and we write music, full music, we don’t write half a music,” he said.

“I’m a professional artiste and professional performer. I’m not someone who just take up music. I’ve been making a lot of mark in the music, and people love me because I don’t do things for hype, I’m doing music from my heart. When I sing, people are connected and they feel the energy.”
