Nastic remakes Jamaican classic
While growing up in Yallahs, St Thomas, singer Nastic was inspired by several sounds, and his latest single, ' My Jamaican Girl', is an ode to the Gaylads, one of the early pioneers of Jamaican music.
"I decided to sing a cover version of My Jamaican Girl because of inspiration that I got from the rhythm. From listening to the rhythm, I knew that the song was right for it," said Nastic.
My Jamaican Girl was a major hit for the Gaylads in 1971. Leslie Kong produced it. Kong died in August of that year.
From an early age, Nastic, given name Jason Smith, knew music was his calling.
"The first producer that I worked with was Joba who had a label called Addis Ababa. I have also worked with Fitzroy Hamilton and the Gold Mine Production label," said Nastic.
Despite the challenges, Nastic has persevered in his bid to spread positive music and to represent for his parish.
"Music has not been an easy road but in spite of this, my love for the music is what keeps me in the game. It's all about positive music and positive energy," he said.
