US-based Jamaican recording artiste Sekuence is still celebrating his contribution to the success of the single Tu Pum Pum that features veteran reggae-dancehall entertainer Shaggy and newest Latin sensation Karol G.

He says that before his involvement in the production, his main focus musically was on the Jamaican genres.

"It was a very rare occurrence that I would try any other genres," Sekuence told THE STAR. "This record helped me to understand that music is a universal language [that] almost anyone can relate to. [So] my advice to all upcoming artistes has now been, don't trap yourself to any, one specific genre, to think outside the box. There is a whole world listening that is willing to appreciate your craft."

Within the first week of its release last March, the Latin-dancehall fusion song, produced by Trackstarr, charted number one in several countries across South America and accumulated more than 100 million streams on digital media platforms.

In his last interview with THE STAR, the MoBay-born Sekuence was concerned about the relatively low support the song got locally.

However, his views have changed, more so now that he has finally received the plaque from the Recording Industry Association of America affirming that he is a certified gold-selling artiste.

"It's a very great feeling that words can't really express at this time. Each time I look at the plaque, it gives me a whole different feeling. The emotions are mixed at this time as I'm still coming to terms that I am a certified gold-selling artiste. It goes to show the numbers don't lie," he said.

ESTABLISHED ARTISTES

He added: "I always foresee the best for any record that I release, and even though promotion in Jamaica was not really the focus for this particular record, it would have been a way better feeling if it was acknowledged by the audience. I knew it was going to be a hit once the project was completed also bearing in mind that there are two very well-established artistes that blessed the track. ... I am grateful."

Sekuence has also been working in the studio and has joined artistes like Konshens and Dovey Magnum on tours in the US and UK, respectively.

He and Trackstarr also released Fifty Shades and H.A.P.P.Y., featuring Kemar Highcon.

"My main focus is to create new content and develop a bigger fan base worldwide. I'm a real lover of music and am always up to working with musicians and artistes, no one in particular, but it will happen again. I am dedicated to working on brand Sekuence," he said.
