COVID-19 inspires Zagga’s ‘Isolation Project’
Back in March when the country recorded its first coronavirus case, Zagga was one of the first artistes to put out a track inspired by the deadly virus. According to him, the single ' New Hail' has gained a lot of traction over the past few months. So much so, the attention prompted Zagga to undertake a complete project dedicated to the situations stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dubbed the Isolation Project, the compilation is slated for an April 22 release. The entertainer told THE STAR that although it is a project inspired by the events brought on by the coronavirus, it is also a compilation that will last long after the virus has passed.
"This Isolation Project is just a compilation I put together for the events happening at this time; the whole COVID lockdown thing. I had two songs out - New Hail and Shall Overcome - that were doing well and I thought why not do a whole project?" he said. "But although it's stemming from the virus situation, the songs are suitable for all occasions. So long after the virus is gone, people can listen to these tracks and still feel a connection."
"I have a song on the project called Essential and that speaks to men and women who are home with their partners realising dat dem can't cook and do certain thing so dem basically not essential to the relationship. There's also a song called Lonely that speaks to the men and women under lockdown who can't get to see dem significant others. I have a song for everyone and every situation on this project," he continued.
Zagga said based on the reaction the first two tracks have received, he expects the project to do really well.
"You can never be 100 per cent sure how people will receive new projects but I'm hoping based on the reception from the first two tracks, it will be well received. There will be nine songs on it and I just want people who are feeling stressed to listen to this project and feel better about their situation," he said. "Putting together this project was therapeutic for me and I want it to have the same effect on listeners."
