Although the incident happened some two years ago, up-and-coming artiste N-Vasion remembers it like it was yesterday.

While running errands in downtown Kingston, he met a young woman and asked for her number. She obliged, and the deejay dialled the number later.

A man answered the phone, and N-Vasion theorised that he had either been given the wrong number or was being 'curbed' by a woman who was taken.

The moment left such an impact on the entertainer, he could only process his thoughts through song, and at the time, 'dem gyal yah wicked' was the only phrase that could adequately sum up how he was feeling. Fast-forward to 2020, and the track Dem Gyal Yah Wicked, written some 24 months ago, is one of the hottest new songs on the local music circuit.

N-Vasion told THE WEEKEND STAR that he is not surprised.

"People done did a talk 'bout da song here long time innu, so it was only a matter of time before it buss di real way. It was already an underground anthem ,so mi nuh surprise it come tun a national anthem fi di whole a di yute dem now, locally and internationally," he said. "When me call the number and is a bredda answer the phone, the way me shock mi just hang it up, and fi 'bout two, three weeks mi a medz it and a try find a flow in a mi head fi talk 'bout the whole situation. The actual number weh she gimme, a it me use find the flow. Mi never do the chorus until weeks after." N-Vasion said that he was just speaking from a man's perspective.

"Mi nah bias innu, because some a we man will have all 20 woman one time, but woman bun hotter. When dem do thing, we feel it more," he said. "If you really look into things, man cheat nuff, but woman mash up medz certain way when dem do certain things. Is a song weh everybody can relate to, even di woman dem. Dem know di things dem weh dem a do and so dem understand say 'dem gyal yah wicked' more dan anybody else." The Denham Town native added that since the song went viral, he has seen the momentum around his career reach new levels, and plans to maximise on that exposure as he soars to new musical heights.

Work ethic tun up now

"We see a difference in a we career, because me start get busy. Calls a come in 24/7, producers a link me, and so the work ethic tun up now. Right now, a every single day mi a go studio or mi a make a link fi interview. Di momentum definitely make me a push harder," he said. "Mi a go get a jet ski fi ride da wave ya, because mi need more hits for 2020 and so mi have whole heap a songs a write." The artiste also said that he will be putting in the work to ensure the dreaded 'one-hit wonder' label is never used to describe him.

"Mi have image, style and mi lyrical, and have a whole heap artiste a collab wid. Too much things a gwaan fi we get da label deh," he said. N-Vasion says he has a few singles to release in the short term, including Jah Heard My Prayers and Dem Never Believe.

"A nuh last week mi start do music innu. A five years now mi a do music and mi a just 22 years old, so yuh must know how hard mi a go," he said.
