Up-and-coming artiste Nicko Blast is planning to execute a 'hostile takeover' of the dancehall industry. The entertainer, who is being pushed by producer Anju Blaxx and his team at Blackstate Records, says in an age where social media reigns supreme, he is hoping to achieve virality with his new song as he eyes a spot in the competitive dancehall sphere.

"The new song we're about to release is called Hostile Takeover, and that is exactly what myself and Anju Blaxx plan to do. The aim right now, worse in a dis time weh we only have social media and Internet, is to go viral and stay viral. Nothing else nuh deh deh fi do right now," he told THE STAR. "Dat a nuh me only intention but we nah no party and nothing going on right now so entertainment get boxed into social media and the Internet. When I do go viral, me a go push out good content. Me naah go just live pan one style and stay in a di dark realm. Really and truly, me a go surprise people wid different medz. Difference a go be wah keep me sustained."

The dark realm Nicko Blast speaks of is the visual content behind his latest track, which has a 'gothic' element to it. He said that although the content of the song has more to do with supporting black supremacy than occult practices, the video gives the impression of the latter, and he doesn't mind.

"This is a way to get people talking based on the concept of the video and if yah do entertainment, a deh so the thing deh right now because if yuh look and see and observe, majority of peple a do some f**kery fi buss, so I guess that's where it's at," he said. "But still, we nah go do any kind a thing or nothing too outrageous because we nah 'loo' out fi di buss. Me nah go do nothing weh wouldn't make me feel good or proud. Mi proud a dis song, this video, and so me willing to deal wid any consequences weh come wid dis and me don't care weh anybody wah say because people a do worse things."

'shock value'

The entertainer is adamant that his 'shock value' approach, though fairly common, will not have the same result as the countless others who have tried it.

According to him, those before him who have tried and failed and are now memories, did not possess any real talent.

"A nine-day talk and people figet bout talent-less people, but talent speaks for itself. I am a man weh a go keep dem talking because I have talent and confidence. That is a lethal combination dat fa sure. Dis weh me do, mi nuh wah brag, but it creative and me a go use dat and sustain the virality."
