Baby Tash is ‘under construction’
Recording artiste Tashon Williams has her wall built high, as she navigates being a public figure with a private life, while planting a firm foundation in the music industry.
Speaking to THE STAR, the artiste, better known as Baby Tash, the first Magnum Queen of Dancehall winner in 2008, shared, "I have been up to a lot of things, staying productive behind the scenes that has to do with my personal and professional growth." This process has included her choice to not post on social media.
Simply put, she is "under construction", which is the status highlighted on her Instagram profile.
Her mantra is 'Don't wait on things to happen for you, make them happen', and she continues to do so as she works with the likes of Kirkledove Records' Kirk Bennett and up-and-coming producer Rushawn James of KingRush Music.
Baby Tash said "It's just about working with the known names. I have invested a lot of time and money in me and it not only focuses on my career as a singer, deejay or songwriter but as an entrepreneur, which people will see when the time is right. Also, during the pandemic, I became involved in planning, designing and executing online events."
Recently, she hosted an event planning and entertainment seminar themed 'Aim For Impact' which was a collaborative initiative between the Humanities and Education Guild and The Institute of Caribbean Studies at the University of the West Indies, which featured party promoter Fabian O'Hara, comedian Russhaine Berry, and cultural specialist and educator Dr Deborah Hickling Gordon.
TRAGEDY
Four years ago, the recording artiste's Spanish Town family home went up in flames. Her grandmother also passed away.
"The incidences did have an impact on my own emotions. I believe my interest in music was heightened by some of those very emotions so I spent a lot more time in studio then, too," she said. "
Baby Tash's catalogue of music includes tracks like First Night, and Nah Sekkle Down. Another single, Hot Girls, which was produced by T.O.K.'s Flexx, for his Xplosive Production label more than five years ago, was released on iTunes last summer, though her style and delivery have matured.
During the time she has been using to focus on her career, she has also contemplated a name change.
"It is something I am playing around with but as an artiste, you have to be careful, as changing your name can work in your favour or against you even though my team will joke and say, yuh a nuh baby anymore," she said.
