Admiral Tibet spreads the healthy living message
Veteran recording artiste Admiral Tibet is a mainstay in Jamaica's culture of conscious music and he has no plans of that changing any time soon.
He has enjoyed a career of touring and performing for more than three decades, he said, even though the touring part has been on pause for the past year.
"Right now, I am at home doing the right thing, which is making certain I eat properly, exercise and sleep. Touring is out for now, so I am saving up the energy until the time comes for me to return to the stage," Admiral Tibet told Weh Dem Up To.
With a diet that largely consists of raw foods and fish for the past 33 years, the Deh Pon Mi Guard artiste says he has managed to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
"I won't stop people from eating what they want to but I don't mind sharing what my meals are like. Most of the food I depend on for my nutrients are fruits, vegetables and nuts and seeds. A regular my blender run to make shakes with oats, flax, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, ripe banana, papaya and sometimes naseberry ... that give it a chocolate taste, and I find plant-based protein powder," he said.
Now when it comes to fish, Admiral Tibet said that he preferred snapper. "I will cook that all kind of ways from brown stew to rundown. Plenty people don't know it but Admiral Tibet is a good cook. I am very serious about exercise. As a big man, I try maintain a six pack by doing pull-ups and push-ups because it easy for the tummy to get big," he said. Admiral Tibet celebrated his 60th birthday last November.
Known as 'Mr Reality', he turned his attention on the global crisis, and also the staggering loss of lives the reggae music fraternity has seen over the past year. Among those passing on was Pad Anthony, a popular figure on the sound system circuit who he credits as the first artiste to hand him a microphone to perform on stage in the 1980s. He passed away last August, but Admiral Tibet said he was not certain of the cause of death.
Eating properly
He said "A nuff people pass and gone but it gives me more strength to do what I am doing and stick to my routine of eating properly and exercise daily. It is a serious time and it shock me to see certain people go."
Even while putting in the effort to record a collection of new music to produce an album, Admiral Tibet said he had no interest to go outside before now.
"Yuh know I never want to go on the road when the news of this illness come out. I feel a bit better to come out of my house but mi nuh left mi mask," he shared.
He is currently promoting the single Not Gonna Wait (Until Tomorrow) produced by G Shav Music, which he said is about, "doing what you can today, instead of putting it off until tomorrow". Some of his popular songs include Serious Time, Leave People Business and Running From Reality.
"I have not come up with an album name as yet but as usual people will hear the messenger side of me that they are used to. It is my mission in this music business to teach people things they know little about or do not know. As I say the time moving serious and music is still a powerful way of bringing messages to the people," he said.
