Intence to maintain winning formula in 2021
"We nah change. Is a new year, but a nuh new me," dancehall artiste Intence told THE STAR recently about his outlook for 2021.
"Me jus' a give some different topic to impact society and bring some things to dancehall weh people nuh hear bout, or weh people nuh do yet," he added.
Part of what makes Intence so relatable, and keeps him trending, is that even as he preaches 'badness', he is candid about current times.
He said, "Fun a nuh my ting, really, a jus' work me a work to make the family and friends dem happy. A jus' because nuh show nah keep and people nah see me out in the road. We might nah get the right percentage, but we still a get request fi dubplate and people still want to voice me, so money still a mek."
His single New Year, released on December 31, was trending on YouTube for approximately three weeks, holding the number one spot for five days. His latest release, Pickachu, is also trending in the top 10. However, he has not set any concrete targets with regard to the music he is releasing for 2021.
"Everything depends on how a song do ... . If we drop something and we nuh see people gravitating to it the way we expect, we go back to the drawing board. We find supmn else and cook up," he said.
Completed this year
He and his team are cooking up an EP in partnership with VP Records, which he hopes will be completed this year. He also anticipates touring the US before 2021 ends.
"Everything depends on timing and what's going on in the environment. Me get whole heap a riddim, but I am listening for something new," he said. "Right now, melody and flow important, lyrics haffi nice to, but people cyaa keep on a come with the same thing."
Though having cemented his name in the music industry in a short time, the artiste said there's no room for conceit in his career.
Citing a crash in which his Mercedes-Benz was written off, Intence said he learned to "Nuh worship vanity".
"Although I didn't [worship vanity] before that happen, it a show me seh, yuh can have something today and it gone in a couple minutes. Me deh yah said way, so we have to give thanks."
