‘Original Gangalee’ Louie Culture working on album with Snow Cone
Veteran artiste Louie Culture, in 1983, scored with Gangalee. In that hit he chanted,
I wanna be free from all chains and all bangles and rope
Free from all bars and all borders and dope
Free to praise the Lord because mi nah praise the pope
So mind how yuh a wash yuh face wid Babylon soap
I was born to be free
'Cause mi a ole gangalee, gangalee and who have eyes they will see.
Fast-forward to 2021 and the freedom fighter is adamant that the pandemic can't chain up the music and, as if to prove it, he released an album last year and is now in studio with successful producer Rohan 'Jah Snow Cone' Fuller working on another.
The 2020 album, titled Can't Dead, was produced by the Portland-based Axx Productions, headed by Devon Bradshaw, former bassist of Acts of Jahpostle, the band that backed late reggae singer Garnett Silk.
TRACKS ON THE ALBUM
"The album has 12 tracks and it's really some nice work. We did a remake of Junior Murvin's Police and Thief, and we have songs like Yardman Ting, Territory Hot and Thankful," the 'original gangalee' shared.
The new album with Jah Snow Cone is yet to be titled, even though it is almost complete. A single, Anointed, has already been released.
"It's getting good rotation, so we are happy for that. To tell the truth, me and Snow Cone supposed to mek the link already because is long time Bling Dawg [deejay] did tell mi that Snow Cone asking for me. So, I went to studio and a deejay named Earthworm tell me the same thing. Mi just go check Snow Cone. And the work start soon after," he explained.
Billboard-charting producer, Jah Snow Cone, is known for his dedication to foundation dancehall music and Louie Culture is old school with a flow that can fit into any mix, as he showed on Dexta Dap's Call Me If remix, which samples his blockbuster hit, Gangalee.
Louie Culture laughed when quizzed about the studio sessions with the producer.
"Snow Cone is a vibes man, and as a artiste, yuh want to be surrounded with that kind of energy in studio. Snow Cone knows exactly what him looking for musically and that is one reason why him production dem hit the mark," he stated.
The artiste also had another single released two weeks ago on the Dun Rich label, titled Gideon.
Louie Culture, given name Lewin Brown, hails from Windsor Forest in Portland. Early in his career, he made a link with the then popular Mad House Crew and recorded songs such as Live and Learn, a collaboration with Wayne Wonder; Excellent; Bogus Badge; Revolution Song; No Gal and Gangalee, which was also the title of his debut album produced by Stone Love.
