Downsound donates $5 million to Haiti

Downsound Records, which is led by Joe Bogdanovich, has donated $5 million to Food For the Poor toward the Help Haiti Fund. His organisation has also announced that it will be giving $20,000 to 50 nurses.

"It's almost magical. It's all about bringing people together in a time of need," Bogdonovich told THE WEEKEND STAR.

He said it was part of a bigger project, but he could not elaborate just yet.

The handover of the cheque to Food For the Poor was posted on Downsound's social media pages

"Thank you for your continued support and commitment to help those in need!" the organisation said in response to the donation from the owners of Reggae Sumfest.

Haiti has suffered a series of setback in recent times, starting with the assassination of its president Jovenel Moise last month. Then a massive 7.2-magnitude earthquake flattened hundreds of homes and claimed some 2,200 lives two weeks ago. More than 300 people are still missing.

The country was then hit by Tropical Storm Grace last week.

"Recognising the plight regarding the current spike in COVID-19 infections, the Downsound team is prepared to deliver to 50 nurses $20,000 each in cash as an appreciation of their commitment to service to our health sector especially in this lengthy, no-movement lockdown. On behalf of Downsound Records, we appreciate your service and patriotism," Bogdanovich said.
