NWC reviewing Govana’s $500,000 water bill
Dancehall artiste Govana, this week, aired his grievance after he was hit with a $500,000 bill from the National Water Commission (NWC).
Taking to Instagram, the Likkle Bit A Money deejay posted his bill for an eye-watering $540,078.61 and tagged NWC and MOCA, the government's anti-corruption law enforcement agency,
He also posted the bill in his Instagram story and in his rant, he even got a bit religious. "@nwcjamaica the blood of Jesus is against oonu," he warned.
As expected, the backlash against the utility company was sharp, with many questions loaded with sarcasm, while others proved to be humorous. His colleague Sheba shared that she too had received an extraordinarily high water bill.
When contacted, Govana's representative assured that the matter was being dealt with by the relevant authority.
"I can't say much on the matter. As you may be aware, Govana is currently on an overseas professional assignments. However, he is aware of the situation and the matter is being investigated by the relevant authorities," publicist Raymond 'Shadow' Small explained.
The NWC told THE WEEKEND STAR that the matter was being "assessed".
"The NWC has reached out to the customer and asked that he provides certain pertinent information so that his concern can be properly assessed," said Andrew Canon, NWC's corporate communications manager. Govana was recently in Boston, Massachusetts, and BRT Weekend, Florida.
Govana, given name Romeo Nelson, made headlines this year when his single, Open the Door, a collaboration with Spanish singer Bad Gyal and featuring DJ Papis, was certified gold in Spain for sales of more than 20,000. The certification is a combination of physical sales, as well as streaming and digital downloads.
