Chaka Demus says it’s time to ‘Build Bridges’

Veteran singjay Chaka Demus is confident that unity is strength, and he wants people to realise this which he promotes on his new single titled Build Bridges.

Co-produced and co-written with Isha Bel, Chaka Demus said the track was inspired by the unsettling events of the pandemic.

"We see weh a gwaan inna the world right now and see seh the people are so divided so mi seh to myself, we haffi try get a song weh people try fi come together and love each other and care for each other," he told THE WEEKEND STAR.

The music video has garnered more than 50,000 views since its release two weeks ago, and he is pleased with the feedback.

"Every radio station and disc jockey love it and dem love the energy," he said. "Young people love it and mi nah go lie, mi never know seh so much young people woulda really gravitate to this song, although it's my aim. The message is strong and the production is great so mi give thanks."

His plea has been made by other artistes throughout history, but Chaka Demus believes that good music can positively transform lives.

"When you look pon social media, you see a lot of songs and the people are just concerned about partying," he said. "When you look around, a whole heap a people a drop out and people a tek sick and we need fi put out some form of message fi mek the people dem realise seh waa gwaan inna the world is no joke. We need fi mek sure we tek we health issues very serious. Mi have mi likkle problems with mi health and mi haffi mek sure mi a do mi thing properly fi mek sure seh me feel strong inna my body and mi immune system deh pon a level. We a try fi put certain things inna di youth dem fi mek dem realise seh it's not all about partying. You have to realise seh things and times are very serious now."
