Colleagues host fundraiser for Kimiko Versatile after car accident

The dance community was shaken to the core when news broke that one of its own, Kimiko 'Versatile' Miller, was in a car accident.

Prayers were answered when she walked away from the incident with just a fractured right eye socket and cuts and bruises. This Saturday, the dancer, in association with dance organisations Belleh 23, Queens on Top and Dancehall Ketch Up, will be hosting a benefit dance class to facilitate pending medical bills and expenses.

Television personality and dancehall artiste Sanjay, who runs Belleh 23, reached out to Kimiko to see how she was recovering and suggested the class.

Kimiko was very appreciative and immediately began discussing who could teach the segments for free. She was able to land five dancers and instructors.

"I'm grateful to them and others who reached out with tears and prayers. When you treat people good, stay humble and down-to-earth, people will respect you and show you love. I'm glad that humility has carried me through and that I always keep it real; people keep it real with me. Dancehall Dance Association contributed to my fees and I'm thankful for them and the community for supporting me to get back on track," she told THE WEEKEND STAR.

Looking back at the accident, which took place on the way to Runaway Bay in St Ann, Kimiko said that, after seeing the state of her car, she knew things could have been worse.

"My body is really strong and is recovering quickly. I'm a physical person so I'm always hitting the gym, eating right and treating my body right. So the bounce back is easier," she said.

"It just show me seh God is with me. He gave me a second chance. I've been in repentance mode one year before. I'm seeing spiritual warfare but I'm still in the fight and honoured to be alive." she said.

Teaching her first class a week ago in Ocho Rios, Kimiko didn't bring much energy, because of sore hips and her recovering eye. She instead relied on her teaching skill to explain the movements. This Saturday, the classes will be held at Belleh Headquarters at Shortwood Lane in Grants Pen, St Andrew, as well as virtually starting at 11 a.m. The featured dancers are Boysie Roses, Happy Feet, Joel Immortal, Omar Cleanstep and Pops Xclusiv.
