Candlelight vigil for Shakka Dax this Friday

A candlelight vigil will be held on Friday for up-and-coming entertainer, Shakka Dax, who was killed early last Thursday in an accident along the Oracabessa main road, in St Mary.

He was a member of Charly Black's Team Unstoppable crew. Producer Jermaine 'Crawba Genius' Henry confirmed to the THE STAR that the vigil will be held at the accident site, starting at 7 p.m.

He described the 26-year-old Shakka Dax, given name Jomarie Jones, as "a real youth, who always jovial" and shared that Charly Black had a lot of plans for him.

"It's sad and just totally unexpected. I saw Shakka two days before the tragedy and we talk after that. He was sorting out things in the country so that he would be able to come to Kingston for a while. Is a family youth and him always talking about him mother," Henry, who is a member of Charly Black's team, shared.

Henry added, "The only time I ever see Shakka in a little mood is if him supposed to do something and Charly haffi call him bout it. Charly is a man if him a help yuh him go all out, and him will scold yuh if yuh not moving how yuh supposed to. Right now, it mash up everybody. Charly did a show inna foreign on the weekend and mi seh, Charly mash up."

He told THE STAR that Shakka Dax was a "super talented" entertainer, whose talents had impressed Charly Black when they both performed at a show in St Ann, shortly before the pandemic.

"Charly have Shaka like him son. Him will see a artiste who coming from a poor background like himself and give him a platform. It sad to lose a youth like Shakka. He was already a star in him community in Galina [St Mary]," he said.

One of Shakka Dax's better known singles is the Team Unstoppable-produced Make it out Yah, a poignant song in which he chronicles the struggles of poverty and reiterates that is his "dream fi mek it out yah". Other singles include Oven, Galina Scheme, Chap Di Food and Papa P.

Police reports are that a minibus collided with a Toyota motor car in which Shakka Dax was travelling. He was reportedly pronounced dead at the hospital.
