Dancehall artiste Power Man was still a teenager when he emerged on the local music scene with his hit single titled ' Stone'.

He recorded the song in 1991 for the legendary production duo Steelie and Cleevie on the iconic 'Giggy' rhythm at Mixing Lab Studio in Kingston; however, it was not released until the following year. He said that he knew it was going to be a hit.

"However, I was worried about the fact that the song was not fit for airplay because the lyrics were very raunchy. Steelie and Cleevie took almost a whole year to release the song. Before I recorded it for them, I had also recorded it for two other producers who didn't do anything with it. As you can imagine, this was very frustrating for me at that time in my career as a young artiste eager to get a break in the business," he said.

Power Man revealed that while he was waiting for Steelie and Cleevie to release the single, he also recorded another version for King Jammys.

"He released his version first and it got some attention, but when Steelie and Cleevie dropped their version of Stone my career took off instantly," said Power Man.

He recently recorded a new version of the song which is titled Stone Rematch featuring Kayydyan. Produced by 360 Degree on an updated version of the Giggy rhythm which was created by New York-based musician JayFK, Stone Rematch was released on July 8 on the Brit Lake Records imprint.

"I feel good to know that after 31 years my song is still remembered by dancehall fans across the world. So, when 360 Degree asked me to record a new version of it, I didn't hesitate to do it. It's early days yet so let's see if the new version will be as successful as the original version," he said.

Power Man, given name Michael Davey, currently resides in the US where he is a patient care technician at the Brooklyn Hospital in New York.

His singles include Body Basics, Serious Things and Gal A Call We.
