Dovey Magnum chilling in Jamaica

Dancehall artiste Dovey Magnum is currently on a multi-layered Jamaica sojourn.

A huge chunk of it will be dedicated to bonding with her mother, who lives in Albert Town, Trelawny, and meeting family members, some of whom don't even know that they are related.

Of course there are plans to put in some serious studio work. Dovey, however, told THE WEEKEND STAR that the preparation for this trip was intense.

"Mi pray bout it, mi fast 'bout it, and when God seh move, that's when I did," said Dovey, whose given name is Simsky Kimberly Harrison.

The Bawl Out singer, was born in Jamaica but grew up in the United States of America. The entertainer, who resides in the USA, said that "There's nothing like coming to [Jamaica] the hub to work with a full team".

"I'm here to kick open some doors, do the do, and gwaan see how di place treat mi," Dovey said.

Her September 1 arrival was heralded with speculation from bloggers about her immigration status, and while she wasn't prepared for that specifically, she knew that there would be some kind of slime. Dovey said she is unperturbed.

"God seh don't trouble handicap people and I am one. I ask myself why people are always trying to throw something at Dovey. Mussi because mi name easy fi call," she surmised.

The eye-candy artiste said that she is enjoying her time in Jamaica, adding that she can spend time with her family and enjoying nature at its finest.

"When my mom comes to visit, it's different because sometimes I am on tour. Now that I'm here, we can go river or just chill out," she said.

But it has not been all about fun for Dovey. She has been hitting the studios and making music. Her time in the studio has seen her record for Sky Heights Records and she announced that she has "69 sex song [and] 20 diss song".

Meanwhile, Dovey, who was also seen on Instagram (IG) this month cheering on social media sensation Queenie

"Queenie, to me, is like waking up to read a Bible quote or an inspiring meme. Queenie is me on the inside ... and sometimes on the outside.

Queenie's shenanigans with her younger husband, Dewey, is IG Live gold, and Dovey explained why this is the case.

"What people need to understand is that if it wasn't for IG, there would be a depression crisis. We want people to know about our successes ... and same way when we hurting we share it. So when Queenie is hurting, because she is cheated on, the most we can do is seh, 'Queenie, we a go help yuh cuss him.' And when dem get back together, we and him a friend again," Dovey said.
