Jamaican rapper Scantana has added a twist to dancehall artiste Valiant's mega dancehall hit Dunce Cheque with a remix titled Subjects.

The Kingston-based recording artiste and motivational speaker, whose given name is Kibwe Lawrence, said the idea to record the track emanated from a dare. This followed discussions with one of his friends after they were holding a vibe in their community and reasoning among themselves.

"It's not usually my forte to cover songs. So this was just me freestyling with friends and 'voila'," he said.

"We did a have a conversation on the ends and mi did a say to mi friends that I can go viral at will. Viral is a thing whereby it is a formula, and if you understand what to do, then you can go viral. And then the Dunce Cheque song come on and mi brethren ask me how mi wudda do over tha song deh. And I came up with the first line as a freestyle and everybody buss a blank and after dem buss the blank, I said, 'Wow this might could work'. So mi jus create the song," he added.

He admitted that the creative process was smooth for him.

"Well I created one day, recorded the next day and the day after that, it appeared to be everywhere. The feedback has been good. I came up with the lyrics in under an hour because I listened to the original song while conjuring the lyrics in my mind," he shared.

He said the music video was shot at his alma mater, Excelsior Community College. One listener who commented on the music video on his YouTube platform described it as bringing a balance.

Scantana reasoned that, "Balance is a fair enough view to have. Wherever (there is) saturation of any one thing (it) starts to become a concern. I'm just here to entertain, educate and empower with positivity."
