Dancehall artiste Vershon shelled out nearly half a million dollars on his sleek black leather outfit and accessories that he wore to the inaugural Caribbean Music Awards, held last week at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York, in the United States of America.

The Use to Hungry deejay, who presented the Best New Reggae Artiste award, told THE WEEKEND STAR that he takes pride in his mode of dress. In fact, Vershon says he does not believe in compromising his image or personal appearance.

"How important is fashion? Being an artiste, you have to stay presentable and looking good. I like putting on my clothes and feeling good in them," Vershon said.

The singjay, known for his snazzy appearance and strong vocals, admitted being "unsure" about his show-stopping outfit at first, because "it was a look I've never worn before". However, after trying it, he "loved how it came together".

The Inna Real Life hitmaker was dressed by his stylist and fashion designer, Jenelle Alexia of A Legends clothing brand. Alexia has been his stylist since last January. He enhanced his leather ensemble with a pair of Cartier sunglasses, setting him back US$1,200 (approximately $185,550). His also wore a luxurious $20,000 leather cap and a striking pair of Gucci Maxi GG Lace Boots, priced at US$1,100 (approximately $170,000). The shirt and pants completed the look, with the shirt costing $40,000 and the pants ringing in at $50,000.

"I wanted him to be comfortable yet fashionable. Although he did not make it in time for the red carpet, he still had heads turning with this look," said Alexia.

"In the fashion world, leather stands as a symbol for luxury and power; and no matter how many trends come and go, leather will always be a style statement. Vershon's look was clean and neat with a dash of luxury," she added.

In the meantime, Vershon told The WEEKEND STAR that his Caribbean Media Awards ensemble will not be a one-time wear for him.

"I can't tell the time, date or place, but they are my clothes, so even if I don't wear the full outfit all together, exactly the same, I may switch it up, or something," he said.
