With today's advancements in modern technology, it's hard to imagine a time when cell phones weren't a thing.

But for dancehall lyricist Marlon Plunkett, better known as KipRich, it was letters that kept him connected to his daughter Kaylia during her time training to join the US Army.

"When you out there doing the training, you can't have any phone. So we had to communicate using letters like back in the day. But it was a whole vibe, we really had fun with it. And I was able to use it to motivate her," he said.

KipRich also mentioned that the letters did more than just help him and his daughter stay in contact.

"It show me seh more while you can't too depend pan di phone - you will get you brain lazy with spell check and all a that. So the letters keep me sharp and help me better my writing skills, which me know me can use back," he exclaimed.

Kaylia, who recently turned 18, enters the military world as wars and rumours of wars continue to spread throughout Europe and beyond. But the entertainer said he's not too worried for his daughter.

"You know, no one is going to feel comfortable to even think about their loved one going to war. So what I did is to ensure I do my research to see where would be a good place to deploy her. Granted, they can send for her at any time and send her anywhere. At least we place her in a way that she can be as comfortable for as long as possible," KipRich explained.

Above all else, Kiprich said that he is a proud dad, and is encouraging other parents not to shy away from the thought of their children entering military duty.

"If I was to say anything to fellow parents it is, don't be nervous. Sometimes people might try to discourage us from positive things. But, if you just take the time to do your own research and stop listen to other people, you would a shock to know the upsides," he said.

With his daughter's graduation over, KipRich said that he is a bit freer to expand his love for music, from which he said he took regular breaks to ensure all was good with Kaylia.

He also said that fans can expect a new song with veteran dancehall artiste Bounty Killer in the near future.
