Gospel sensation Perry 'Perry In Christ' Cummings Jr says how he delivers the message has caused more eyes to be on him.

Cummings touts his approach to gospel music production as "creative", noting that "it is more contemporary [than traditional hymns] and therefore more attractive". The vocalist shared that feedback on his music was initially controversial because it sounds "DJ-ish, dancehall".

In a similar breath, he declares the line ' use to sell strap use to fire some' from his Bwoy Affi Remix as only a way for listeners to relate to his music and not a representation of his experiences. While his art has been scrutinised by members of his church and general listeners, the youngster seeks solace in the fact that "If God inspires you to deliver a certain way...if God already validate yuh, yuh nuh need validation from man".

Additionally, to emphasise that his music has its place and that not all gospel artistes will deliver the same way, he cites the biblical figure Peter, who was viewed as "vulgar", but whose work was still appreciated by God.

The artiste expressed gratitude for hearing his music being played consistently on local gospel-based airwaves. However, he is appealing to secular stations to follow that route.

"We never come to call the righteous, so it doesn't make any sense my type of music is played only on gospel stations 24/7. If you are already saved and sanctified, all you'll do is feel good 'bout the music. But when a man on all these other secular stations play gospel music, the man listening will say, 'Jah know, mi like da medz here,'" he said. In addition to getting airtime on Jamaica's "major gospel station", Cummings has welcomed being featured on secular platforms and being booked for secular events.

Amid being a spectacle on the gospel scene, Cummings has not forgotten his academic pursuits. As a political science student, he hopes to use Christianity as a foundation for reforming government policies.

"I believe that Christians or born-again believers should be at the head of government. The Bible tells us that we are 'above and not below, we are the head and not the tail'. We should be in the places that make changes, create policies, model certain things after the biblical principles."

Cummings anticipates releasing more music as well as performing at the Volume Explosion concert on December 9 to close 2023.
