Deejay Scorpion Gosh is riding the wave of his single, Fast Cash, an up-tempo dancehall track on the 'Spontaneous' rhythm.

The single has helped him to pack venues in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where the track was laid and a video shot recently. He said that Fast Cash expresses "the vibe of the times when di youth dem want some cash fast and we want the bigger heads to understand this".

No stranger to music, Scorpion Gosh, given name Nicholas Nelson, grew up in the company of his famous DJ cousins Super Cat and Silver Cat, who often visited his home in York Town, Clarendon.

In the 90s golden era of dancehall, Scorpion Gosh was exposed to the influences of the Shocking Vibes Studio where he met entertainers like Beenie Man, Snagga Puss and Frisko Kid. Silver Cat eventually persuaded him that he had the talent, which led to him record Place Set a Way Doh in the early 2000s as a teenager, and performing at shows such as Island Explosion, Follow Di Arrow, Summer Jam and the West Kingston Jamboree.

Currently working with his mentor Bounty Killer, Scorpion Gosh is set on reviving classic dancehall with modern influences.

"Right now my focus is on bussing inna Jamaica as I have already scored big in Florida through hits like Friend Turn Enemy. Fast Cash is already big there, but I want Jamaican audiences to give me the needed fawud," Scorpion Gosh said. Having worked as an electrician, jerk chicken vendor, security guard and taxi operator, he said that the time is now ripe for him to claim his place in the sun. He rates Bounty Killer, Buju Banton, Mavado and Cham as his inspirations, along with Lady Saw [now Minister Marion Hall], Vanessa Bling and Shaniel Muir.

"I'm willing to do collaborations with any of these icons," Scorpion Gosh said. "Right now is the time for Scorpion Gosh, don't mek a bokkle mash."
