Tygah De Alpha’s single generates buzz

Dancehall artiste Tygah De Alpha is generating heat in the streets with the ' Never Before' single.

"The feedback has been great, to the point where most people even believed that the vocals were actually those of a well-known artiste, so I view that as a compliment," said the artiste, whose given name is Javion Alensie Brown.

The provocative nature of the song, coupled with Tygah De Alpha's sparkling vocals, has influenced the more than 418,000 views the video has received, giving him his first bona fide hit.

The artiste grew up in Trinityville in western St Thomas. He discovered his love for music during his teens when he attended the St Thomas Technical, Cedric Titus and Robert Lightbourne high schools. He got involved in music at the St Thomas Technical with a music group called Stashment Crew. After a few months, the group broke up and he went solo, christening himself Tygah De Alpha.

"The name Tygah De Alpha is a combination of names with important meanings. 'Tygah' is my nickname from a tender age, while the name 'De Alpha' shows dominance and autocratic leadership as an individual/entertainer," he said.

He released his first official song, titled Downtown Kingston, which he believes did not get proper promotion. Unfazed, he continued to work on his craft before teaming up with Sha-Tess Records.

Tygah De Alpha has been in the studio, conceptualising songs for edgy dancehall beats for an EP. One of those songs is his follow-up release, Duffle Bag.

"I have every intention to do an EP in 2024. It's all in the making, mi just a gwaan put in the work," he said.
