Deyvus determined to make it big
Up-and-coming dancehall artiste Devyus has dreams of making it big in the entertainment industry.
A Calabar High School old boy and a die-hearted Masicka fan, Devyus said he's inspired by the Gennasyde artiste's rise to fame. Aiming to use the entertainer's blueprint as a guide to his own ascension, Devyus is looking forward to one day dominating the local music sphere.
"Mi a listen and a study Masicka long before him buss as big as he is now. His story is an inspiration to me and shows me that hard work and self-belief can get you anywhere you want to go," he said. "Even though him never get the reaction at first, him never stop working and that motivates me to keep on putting out the work and now he's reaping the benefits."
Deyvus said that he sees himself as a very successful artiste because he is determined to win.
"I am going to use Masicka's rise as a guide because him story show me say it can be done if you believe," he continued. "Nuff time me feel like giving up because this industry is hard. Mi take breaks from music and start again from scratch, but mi nah ever give up because I am multi-talented and I know I can get there."
The entertainer believes he has found the track that will open doors for him locally. Alleviate, which was released at the start of the year, has generated more than 100,000 views on YouTube and brought many opportunities.
"Mi always hear people say good things can come even when you're at your lowest and Alleviate show me dat. That song came about when I was at the lowest point of my life. Mi did just feel like mi nah get no help or support from friends, family, colleagues and I was in a depressed mood," he shared. "Mi bredren Don Chaos send me a song wid Pinkboss and tell mi listen and give me opinion. I told him I liked the song but the riddim caught my ears so I asked him to send me."
Deyvus said that he poured out all his emotions on the beat.
"He (the producer) called me back and said the song is a hit and based on what everyone is saying, seems like it is."
Devyus said many listeners have been expressed how much the song has given them hope, and that was his intention.
"When me a voice the song, it lift me up outta mi dark place and so I hoped that was what it would do for everyone who listened it and based on what people have been telling me, mission accomplished," he said.
With what he believes is a hit under his belt, Devyus is determined to go even harder in 2024 as he eyes becoming a household name.
