Visually impaired singer Nigy Boy has had big dreams of becoming a reggae/dancehall star since he was a child navigating his way around Montego Bay, St James.

Success is finally within reach with the explosion of his hit song Continent, which is trending globally, having amassed nearly 1.5 million views and counting on YouTube. Fans have become faithful followers, hailing the singer for his lyrical genius.

"Some people think I have the potential to save dancehall, but truthfully, I'm just being a musician, expressing myself in the best way I know how. It just so happens that I don't have to be overly explicit to get my messages across. I love the music of my culture, but at the same time I aim to create a flavour that can resonate globally and not just within the Caribbean diaspora" he explained.

Speaking about others who came before him, he stated, "I think the secret to Shaggy's and Kranium's success in the international space is the flavour of their songs."

The New York-based, Jamaica-born singer added, "They are able to blend different musical genres together which allows them to reach a global audience. That is the same pattern I am trying to recreate."

He acknowledged that it won't be easy, but he is prepared to put in the work.

"Yes, I am currently juggling a musical career along with academic pursuits. It's a heavy burden to bear, especially with my recent success, but I'm managing. I have a clear plan of action going forward. I'm trusting the process and making the best judgement calls," he said.

With his current success, some predict it is just a matter of time before major record labels in the US come calling.

"I definitely see a major label deal happening in the foreseeable future, but for now I'm just putting in the work, maintaining consistency, and exceeding my own expectations," he said.

While he is thankful for his current achievement, Nigy Boy's passion is fixated on the much bigger prize of mainstream success.

"If I woke up tomorrow and was able to secure a collab with Usher, it would be a dream come true," he shared with THE STAR.

"I am a big fan of his work, and believe he is a musical genius. Getting the opportunity to work with him would no doubt allow me to export Jamaican music to new audiences. I would apply the same statement to Chris Brown, if I ever got the opportunity to collaborate with him, too," he explained.

Nigy Boy's singles include Superwoman, which was dedicated to his mom; Waterfalls, featuring Mr Vegas; You and I; and Lover not A Fighter.
