Rap/dancehall artiste Marcy Chin is known for her unique fashionable choices and creative viral videos which set her apart from the rest.

However, despite people's perception of her being "standoffish", she feeds off the energy she gets and wishes for females to start embracing sisterhood as the men do on their side. She urged women to stop being each other's enemies.

"You can't be beating down on each other like that, that's just crazy. You see the men, they love brotherhood. If you notice the artistes, all a dem get together, go on shows and make songs together to uplift themselves," said Chin.

She continued, "I'm not saying they don't hate on each other too because they do, but it's not like how like how girls keep themselves separated. Coming from someone like me who people see as kinda standoffish, I do understand the power of unity. Because you want to be in a space where everyone is helping each other and everyone is growing individually and it's not taking anything away from you, but puts you on another level. It's always helpful when you have other people in the space that's doing well too."

She advised women to focus more on practising more self-love in order for it to transcend to others.

"If you're empty, you can't give of yourself or help nobody. So you have to first love yourself before you can love other people and attract that type of loving you give. But don't have that selfish mindset in a way that's malicious," she stated.

The Sneaky Link artiste, who is known for her animated promo videos through her social media content, said her stylish persona and attitude is as real as it gets.

"The only thing I'm intentional on is to make sure that [my videos] sound as how I would talk in real life. So that makes it easier for me to do the expressions when I make the TikTok videos because that's me, that's how I look when I talk for real," she laughed. "My whole thing is about being uniquely me and when you enter a space like this and you want your music to grow, you have to be someone who adds to the music rather than to come and try to blend in."

"There is a core sound so you stay true to that and honour that, so it grows. But you have to be meaningful and interesting and not become another 'dancehall girl'. If you are a dancehall artiste you know that you need to stand out but my unique fashion separates me," she added.

Her most recent chart topping single, When Mi Ah, has been her most streamed single in several countries, while trending at number one on Spotify. However, the song was almost shelved, as she felt the lyrics sounded like a 'condom campaign'.

"And I was really cautious of that because I didn't want it to come off as corny. But my producer, Kunley, always tell me to trust myself more because I'm an over-thinker [and] when I played it for him he was like 'Girl, a it dis'," she said with pride, while noting that the song is also ranked at No.27 in Japan, No.80 in the UK on the iTunes Reggae chart, No.48 spot in Serbia and No.55 in the USA.

The St Hugh's High School graduate said she has done several collaborations with artistes such as Jamaica-born, Miami-based rapper, Cheflodeezy and local dancehall stars including Roze Don and Skillibeng. She admires the talent of female artistes such as Jada Kingdom and Stalk Ashley, whom she hopes to collaborate with some day.
