US-based rapper Cheflodeezy is bringing his dancehall-rap sound to the Miami scene with his latest release, Drill Wit Ya Dawg.

He recently issued an open verse challenge on his Instagram account with the uptempo song.

"We're going to put the actual winner of the open verse challenge on the song. Miami likes fast, uptempo songs; drill rap is huge in New York. It was all you could hear in New York last year. Drill is big in the UK, so we're expecting Drill Wit Ya Dawg to do well in the club and street scene here in Miami," Cheflodeezy said.

Drill rap originated in Southside Chicago around 2011. Some pioneers of it are Chief Keef, Lil Reese and Lil Durk. UK drill is a sub-genre of drill music and road rap that originated in the South London district of Brixton from 2012 onwards, and adopted slangs from Jamaican Patois with influences from cockney, and more recently Arabic, the US and West Africa.

Cheflodeezy, who was born in Jamaica but migrated to the US, believes his unique cultural heritage will help to establish him alongside other up-and-coming rappers like Bossman Dlow.

"It's going great, getting a lot of support from like-minded artistes. A lot of younger artistes are hopping on the beat as well, people are beginning to notice it," he said.

Cheflodeezy last performed at a show at Club 24 in Miami in March. He has a number of club shows lined up for May as the summer season kicks off in Miami and its environs. In his spare time, the artistes is active in the South Florida and Miami communities, and is heavily involved in charitable activities.

"I help the Eat Well Exchange, a charity focused on healthy eating for inner-city schools; and sometimes I do cooking demos at my alma mater Miami Central High's culinary programme," he said.

He inked a recording deal with Miami-based indie label Artekal Music.
