Aiming for the top has always been the defining ambition of dancehall artiste Madscope.

That's why he is gunning for dancehall's top spot with his latest release, Wine Up, a high-energy dance song with memorable one-liners to grab the attention of the female dancehall crowd.

"I instantly got good feedback on my song, and when I linked up with Cornelius Records and people heard the finished product, they said it is a definite hit. The inspiration for this song comes from our fantastic female dancers who bring that vibes in the parties and social media," said the artiste, whose given name is Kamau Hinds. He plans to shoot a music video, given the positive feedback on social media sites.

Madscope grew up in the sleepy district of Windsor Castle in Portland. He attended Port Antonio High School. As a teen, he became an avid fan of both reggae and dancehall music, which inspired him to start writing his own songs.

"I was called Scope first because growing up in my community, I was always good at aiming... for example, playing soccer and always scoring, or going bird hunting using a slingshot. I never miss once I aim," he said.

When he started writing music, his circle of friends complimented him, saying he had 'mad lyrics', and so he was rechristened Madscope.

He released his first song, Dream Big, produced by Ordain Music, in 2020. Since that time, he has been working assiduously, fine-tuning his craft.

"I love music, and it chose me, and because of that I will be making great music and hoping for a successful career in music. I already have an EP in the making," he said.
