Jamaican dancehall artiste Hitmaker has announced the release of his single, ' Hiatus', in which he challenges other entertainers to elevate their lyrical creativity and ingenuity.

"I took a few months break from the music to scan and revamp my style and direction, to come back and stamp my name as Hitmaker, rightfully," he said. "This song is about lyrics, wordplay, and having fun with words. It's also inspired by Vybz Kartel and Bounty Killer, who are legendary figures in the lyrical factory of dancehall. It's a vibe, something different from what's going on now."

Hiatus also pays homage to sound system legend Ricky Trooper, another icon in the dancehall scene. Hitmaker uses Trooper's voice in the intro, sourced from three different street dances in the '90s, bringing a nostalgic yet fresh element to the track. Hitmaker aims to spark a lyrical challenge among his peers.

"Music is an expression, and I know Jamaican artistes are second to none. I want them to challenge themselves and keep flying the dancehall flag high," he said.

Hitmaker, given name Kedon Whyte, is known for songs such as Styla (remix by Stylo G) and Dope Boy, featuring Demarco. With Hiatus, he reaffirms his place in the dancehall genre and sets the stage for a series of new projects.

"My plan for the summer is to get back heavy into production - more rhythms, more songs, videos, and pushing my career full force. I'm also planning to release an EP from late this year to early next year," he reveals.

Originally from Kingston, Hitmaker currently resides in Canada, but continues to stay deeply connected to his roots through his music.
