Joseph I preaches patience on new single
US actor Andre De Shields, in his Tony-winning speech, once remarked that "slowly is the fastest way to get somewhere you want to be".
Reggae artiste Joseph I echoes this sentiment, preaching time and patience in his latest single, Still Inna the Process, which was produced by beatmaker-engineer Syentist Muzik.
"You have to trust the process. Sometimes it may seem slow, but you have to go through things, the process, and that leads to personal growth and development; it's just part of the journey," said Joseph I, whose given name is Kevin Shawn Andre Bailey.
"You just have to release the need to know or control what's going to happen, and trust that the process will guide you," he said. A video for the single was released more a month ago.
Joseph I was born to parents Cyslin and Stanley Bailey, the youngest of 11 children. While growing up in the streets of Tavern, St Andrew, Joseph I fell in love with music and embraced the Rastafarian culture. He attended the then named Papine Secondary High School, where he focused on mechanical engineering.
In 1993, he delved deeper into the Rastafarian culture, and joined the David House group, which was founded by reggae superstar Capleton and which featured 12 other members. He toured the Caribbean doing several shows, and as time went on, members of David House started solo careers.
In 2020, Joseph I teamed up with Syentist and began collaborating on beats. Joseph I's music revolves around narratives of heartbreak, upliftment and life lessons gleaned from growing up in difficult circumstances.
"In the future, I would like to collaborate with major artistes such as Stephen Marley, Beres Hammond, and the legendary Bounty Killer. Until that time, I am trusting the process. Every day we make progress, so we don't stress," he said.
