Dancehall star Charly Black honoured in Canada
Dancehall star Charly Black says he feels honoured to be formally recognised by the City of Brampton for his contributions to music and culture.
The Trelawny-born deejay, who boasts a strong fanbase in North America, received an honorary certificate from Brampton's Mayor Patrick Brown last Friday. The award was presented during a special ceremony at Brampton City Hall in Ontario, Canada, attended by several staff members and city officials.
"It's a great feeling to receive this award because it shows that the work I put in over the years is being appreciated globally," a grateful Charly Black said.
The recognition came just a day before the platinum and diamond-selling artiste hosted his Charly Black Birthday Carnival at the Mystic Lounge in Brampton, featuring performances by Skinny Fabulous, Neeqah, and Motto.
"The entire city hall family love my music, and we have this special thing going on. That's why they came out with such great energy to come and celebrate with me another milestone on Earth," said the 45-year-old musician, speaking of his sentimental connection with the city.
Brown also commended the impact of work of the Gyal You A Party Animal hitmaker.
"We are honoured to acknowledge his talent and cultural influence. Charly Black's music has not only resonated globally but has also deeply impacted our local community here in Brampton," said Brown.
Charly Black recently celebrated his birthday on April 5 in front of a sold-out crowd at Unstoppable Lounge in Carey Park, Trelawny.
The perennial hitmaker says he is now focused on completing his album, which is set for release this summer.
