Dinho Da Rastaman falls into the spotlight
What began as a simple demo has turned into a breakout hit for reggae artiste Dinho Da Rastaman. His song, Fallen For You, released in March, has gone beyond his expectations.
"I wrote this song during the time that I shot the video for another song of mine called Cherish. It's about me falling for the girl in said video. I didn't necessarily expect the song to have been well received, but the response has been overwhelming and I'm extremely grateful for the support," Dinho shared.
Originally, Fallen For You was never meant for public release. But after his manager heard it, everything changed.
"This track was originally supposed to be a demo, but my manager fell in love with the song and thought it would go places, and so we ran with it. The song is doing well outside of Jamaica and the feedback has just been very positive," he added.
And that leap of faith is paying off. The song has climbed the New York Reggae Chart, peaking at Number 13 after moving up from Number 15, and has maintained a steady presence for eight weeks.
"It is very humbling and an honour to gain recognition outside of Jamaica. It is a very special feeling when I am recognised locally, so my music being able to reach and do well in New York is amazing," he said.
Born and raised in Manchester, the 34-year-old grew up surrounded by the sounds of ska, rocksteady, and reggae. He got his start performing in local bars and nightclubs before eventually joining the cabaret circuit, where he took the stage several times a week.
